“Untitled”
A collaboration between Breege Hynes and Dee McDonnell. Breege Hynes is a printmaker based in Galway and is one of the core members of expanded draught. Dee McDonnell is a recent sculpture graduate of Cluain Mhuire Galway and was awarded the Student of the year award which is a show in the Galway Arts Centre in 2009.
Breege and Dee decided to collaborate during a brainstorm session at an expanded draught meeting in January of this year. They are both quite interested in the notion of visual correspondence, using the postal service and hand delivered envelopes rather than electronic forms of communication. The decided that for a initial period of two weeks to send each other an image or images everyday by post. During this time they would not speak on the phone through text messages or e-mail. Dee decided to use polaroids as her main source of communication but also used collage, mixed media and handmade paper, Breege used collage, drawing, cut outs and photographs as hers. At the end of the two weeks they got together and looked at the correspondence to see if they could maybe find a pattern or a similarity running through both of their images, they noticed that someday’s the images had been a reaction the image received from the other person and others completely separate. They decided to take a break and come back to the idea at a later date. At the moment they are meeting regularly to discuss the next step and are considering an extended period of similar correspondence with the end result possibly being an exhibition of all of their communication.
Expanded draught will aim to find a space to exhibit the final work.
